I have collected a few things I've written about writing and publishing and put them on a web page here: Talking Books. They include:
- Finding a Publisher and Falling in Love: A Convivial Comparison -- my favorite metaphor for talking about the submissions process, developed at considerable light-hearted length; a talk given at the Iowa and Arizona SCBWI conferences in fall 2004.
- The Rules of Engagement: How to Get (and Keep!) a Reader Involved in Your Novel -- thinking about the things that hook readers into a world at the beginning of a book; the things that kick readers out of that world; and the big delightful nest of hooks that is the first two chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. A talk given at the Rocky Mountain SCBWI conference in fall 2005 (that is, the one I was procrastinating on earlier this month).
- And more to come.
Yay! Finally got all that up. But now I suppose I have to get out of bed and be productive . . .
